Contemporary Farm Buildings

Month: September 2023

Northumberland

THE BRIEF

Architectural designer Simon Bartlett at Formicity approached us to create some day and night still images for his client who’d recently bought a large farm building development in Northumberland, and wanted large contemporary residential structures adjoining the existing buildings. Working closely with Simon we were given image boards, material reference and guided in just what the client was looking for with regards to the CG imagery for this personal building endeavour. The images were to aid in the planning agreement stage of this major project.

THE SOLUTION

Commissions such as these are the ‘bread and butter’ of Space VR so it was simply a case of establishing agreed camera positions with the client then proceeding through the project. We have a huge library of previously created 3D models that reduce image creation time, and all the latest plugins that make 3D illustration projects such as these a joy to produce.

THE RESULTS

The end client was extremely pleased with the images and asked for minimal amendments, as what was produced was exactly as he’d hoped. The evening versions, often the more atmospheric and striking, were a cost-effective addition to add to the delivery as only the lighting solutions needed to be revisited. These images can also prove to be vital reference throughout the construction phase of the development.

Timepiece animation

Month: September 2023

THE BRIEF

As part of our commitment to offer our clients the best possible service, we challenged ourselves to an inhouse project producing animated imagery for a luxury timepiece. While our primary strengths lie in architectural visualisation, the same software can also be used to create a wide variety of CG renders servicing many different sectors, so we were interested in seeing the results.

THE SOLUTION

Producing an animation dictated just which software we’d be using. Traditionally, animations would come with a high-risk factor regarding amendments because if the client wanted to change a sequence, even slightly, when all the frames had been produced, then that would mean the entire animation would need to be re-rendered. But with real-time rendering software packages, we can render whole animations often in minutes rather than days, or even weeks. This affords a huge benefit to the client, and to the illustrator, with client amendments no longer being such a costly time-consuming step in animation production.

THE RESULTS

Timepiece modelling needs to be as accurate as possible, as camera positions are often only be millimetres from the object. Depth of Field, which blurs either closer or further away geometry, is something we’ve added to create a more dramatic look.
