Residential living

Month: May 2022

THE BRIEF

This was an in-house test setup utilising new lighting approaches and texturing techniques in our 3D software.

THE SOLUTION

Still Image Creation and Animations.

To achieve a comprehensive study, we opted for creating still images and CG animations as we thought that would deliver a more complete picture of this internal project. Quite often a VR company will use tried and trusted lighting setups that work well enough with interior residential CGI’s. Daytime lighting, offering a lot of natural internal illumination, and an evening setup requiring most of the internal light to be artificial, created from spotlights, floor lights etc. Alternatively, at Space VR, we always try to find an approach that maybe goes a little further.

For our images and animations, we’ve tried to achieve a little of both in each image. You can clearly see it’s a daytime setting, but cloudy enough outside to also require ceiling spotlights which are introduced with subtlety and balance.

THE RESULTS

We believe the ‘devil is in the detail’, and while this project needed extensive test rendering to achieve the most effective lighting balance, we like to think the time spent on these little differences is not unimportant and ultimately raises our images above our competitors.

Dalton Pump House

Month: May 2022

THE BRIEF

Until the enormous and lengthy refurbishment of this impressive 19th-century water pumping house was completed, the client had no visual representation with which to facilitate bookings, so they approached Space VR to create some internal 3D renders to show potential customers what the two main areas would eventually look like.

THE SOLUTION

CGI Still Images

Due to time constraints, we needed to produce some visual renders as quickly as possible, so we advised the client to go with still images of the main areas. From our long experience we could accurately give the client a delivery date which helped them plan the commencement of their marketing strategy.

THE RESULTS

This was a wonderful project to work on. The rustic materials and textures of the main reception gallery starkly contrast with the heavy industrialist feel of the pumping house ceremony room, and I think shows our flexibility and adaptability to bring two such different areas to life when time was a factor.

Salerno

Month: May 2022

THE BRIEF

This exciting new Italian restaurant in Edinburgh was designed with a very traditional look, using rustic and natural materials. As is often the case with such projects, the client wanted to start their marketing campaign long before the project construction had commenced so they needed solid CG images that conveyed the feel and experience of what was to come.

THE SOLUTION

CGI Still Imagery

A natural, rustic design is typically more difficult to achieve in 3D renders because of the lack of uniformity in the creation of the models and their textures. Timbers are often reclaimed or salvaged to give them that lived in look, which can be harder to achieve than materials of a polished and perfect appearance. The same in this case with older bricks, the texture preparation of which needs to be more layered, meaning more time is required, to give the impression of aged appearance. But this lack of uniformity/time heavy image creation can be eased by once again by utilizing our huge library of professionally created textures and pre created asset models, including vintage furniture and aged materials, making even the more time heavy projects so much more cost effective to our clients.

THE RESULTS

The client agreed we had created images which they said perfectly captured the atmosphere they were aiming for when the construction had completed. Light and airy with a very natural countryfied Italian look that was welcoming and warm.

Harbour View

Month: May 2022

THE BRIEF

Having received interior design direction from Space ID, we were requested by the client to produce CG still images and animations of this multi floored leisure complex, including a bowling alley, restaurant/bar, and private residence, for marketing purposes.

THE SOLUTION

CG Still Imagery and Animations

We suggested multiple CG images and animations from multiple angles for a more complete record of the premises. Often hospitality projects benefit from animations as they show exactly how the artificial mood lighting will affect experience. Within the real-time postproduction section of our 3D software, we were also able to give the client almost instant lighting colour options which eventually influenced the actual build of the project.

THE RESULTS

Images such as these do more than simply supply content for a marketing strategy, but also give the end client confidence in the knowledge that a blueprint has been created for everyone involved in the build to follow. Lighting contractors, tilers, bar fitters, ducting specialists etc can all see what the final product is to look like, and then, as a team, work towards.

Ashoka

Month: May 2022

THE BRIEF

To create evening CG images of a new high end Indian restaurant that successfully conveys the focus on the interior mood lighting and an opulent environment.

THE SOLUTION

CG Still Images and CG Animation

Hospitality is a sector in which we’re most at home, having over 25yrs experience producing CG imagery for countless leisure and hospitality projects in the U.K and internationally. From that experience we have come to understand the importance of creating atmosphere and mood in our visuals, something that was vital in conveying the high-end eating experience of Ashoka. The CG images were led by the interior design of Space I.D which placed a high level of importance on concealed mood lighting that was adjustable throughout the day.

THE RESULTS

As an atmospheric representation of the restaurant was so important in this case, we produced a number CGI’s along with brief animations to further round out the campaign. All were used in online and printed marketing.

Ramside Hall

Month: May 2022

THE BRIEF

These self-contained, luxury ‘treehouse’ accommodations needed multiple visual outputs to fully showcase all facets of the property. The clients needed marketing images for their online presence, so we advised a broader package of still images and animations fitting for such a striking development.

THE SOLUTION

CG Still Images and CG Animation

As the properties are regularly booked for a constant period of time, we felt it important to show time of day variations of what could be expected. The outside terraces were also important to visualise as they add to the desirability of the properties. Because of its wonderful forest setting we felt it important to show the site in its entirety, so an animation was also commissioned visualising the approach, aerial views, and populated with characters and leisure equipment.

THE RESULTS

While the interior and exterior images were created using our usual software pipeline, this was the first project creating animations for which we used brand new architectural visualising programmes custom designed for rapid production and photorealism. Animations are often a very labour-intensive time heavy output, but this new technology produces breath taking imagery in a fraction of the time traditionally required. Altogether, the visual outputs create a solid, complete picture of these magnificent hospitality properties that made a marketing strategy available months before the construction was completed.

Lancastrian Suite

Month: May 2022

THE BRIEF

This much loved and much utilised premises underwent a huge re-design and upgrade to a multi-use function room complete with cutting edge lighting rig design. We were requested to produce an all-encompassing visual report of the interior and exterior spaces paying specific attention to the exterior lighting design which was colour changeable.

THE SOLUTION

CG Still Imagery

Using our vast asset library, we were able to quickly set out the interior setting with relative ease, leaving most of the time to reflect accurately the specialist lighting effects. For the exterior we once again were able to give the client a choice of coloured lighting impressions in a matter of hours rather than days due to the advanced postproduction technique, allowing us to keep our costs extremely competitive yet at the same time delivering considered and accurate renders.

THE RESULTS

The exterior images inspired the client to further their thoughts on continuing the colour changing neon themes to other projects in their portfolio. 3D modelling software has become so usable that even major changes to the design may not impact on the creation time of the visual imagery at all. Space VR feels confident in giving its clientele a continuing advancing level of imaginative and cost effective visual outputs.

28 North Terrace

Month: May 2022

THE BRIEF

Our client procured a new office to their café catering business and needed CG still images for design agreement and marketing opportunities.

THE SOLUTION

CG Still Images

For an added level of realism, we decided to composite 3D modelling and lighting of the new property design onto a photograph taken of the site. This is beneficial as we then don’t have to model the surrounding buildings and roads, and the clients appreciate the reduced financial implications of this method.

THE RESULTS

As the unit would be open for most of the day, we were asked to give two visual representations of the view, during the day, and what to expect when viewing the property in the evening. Due to advancements in our modelling and lighting software we were able to produce the first daytime  image, then adjust the lighting and environment in real time post-production to produce the second evening image without having to re-render, something that can take many hours.
